Dutch tricolor

Originating as a republican banner in the Batavian Revolution of late 18th century, the Dutch tricolor Flag was adopted. It inspired many revolution-based flags such as the Statenvlag. This was the first official Dutch Tricolor. The government adopted a modified version of the tricolor in 1477 with a rampant lion in the middle. Although the colors were later changed, there was no law to officially make the tricolor. Later, the Dutch state added the symbol of the lion to its flag.

Dutch coat-of-arms

The Dutch coat of arms depicts the crest for a family. It is simple and elegant. Prior to the Dutch state having a coat, most people used a familiewapen, also known as a family crest. This type crest was mostly used by nobility, upper-class families, and not working-class families. This type of symbol is no longer as common, but it is still very popular.

FAQ

How much does Hollywood make a year?

The average movie costs around $100 million to produce. For a decade, ten movies would be enough to produce enough money for a country.

You could own an island with an airfield, power plant and bank.

If you don't find this to be fun, then you are probably insane.

Why is it called Hollywood?

D.W. Griffith established the first film industry in California, 1887. It was named for Los Angeles, which was at the time called "Hollywood."

Because it was such a fascinating place, people kept coming back for more. People would come from all over just to see what was happening there.

Hollywood is still an integral part of American culture. We have movies, television shows, music videos, commercials, etc. And we call them all "Hollywood."

How much of the box office revenue goes to marketing budgets

Marketing budgets can account for as much as 20% to 40% of a film’s overall budget. Because marketing is vital to any film's success,

No one will know about your film if you don't do good marketing. It is impossible to get people to pay for your film without knowing all about it.

Statistics

  • The author of the study noted that "The percentage of female speaking roles has not increased much since the 1940s when they hovered around 25 percent to 28 percent." (en.wikipedia.org)
  • By 1911, approximately 60 to 70 percent of films imported into Great Britain were American. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • In 2019, that percentage increased to 40 percent. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • If we translate this to a percentage, we get 28%, so let's be generous and say that ‘Hollywood studios' release about ⅓ of the movies released in the U.S. and Canada each year. (glitteratilobotomy.com)
  • Women account for 51 percent of moviegoers. (en.wikipedia.org)

How To

How to get a Hollywood Walk of Fame star

In 1960, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created the Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF). The HWOF is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It consists of 2,711 stars embedded into the sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. The HWOF currently lists 1,922 people.

To become a HWOF member, you need to submit a name to Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They then submit your details to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, a certificate will be sent to you stating that you are eligible. This includes your name as well as date of birth and the city where you live. You also receive a bronze plaque with your name engraved on it. This plaque is attached to a concrete base located in front of the designated Star.

You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee evaluates all nominations and then decides whether to approve them. If they do so, they send a message to the applicant's address explaining their decision. If the person accepts the nomination, he/she receives a second letter confirming acceptance. The applicant then pays $25 to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which forwards the money to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues an official check payable to Hollywood Chamber of commerce. This check is then sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays any artist or organization that submitted an application. The fee is then paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at $12.50. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs pays the remainder.

After the artist has been awarded his/her star, they are eligible to join the HWOF. To be listed on the HWOF, you must pay the remaining balance owed to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due is dependent on the number of years since you were first recognized. If you were first honoured in 1990, then you would owe $15,000. For example, if your first nomination was in 1990, you would owe $15,000. However, if it had been in 1980, you would owe 10,000.

If you want to remove yourself from the HWOF, you need to contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and pay off the remainder of your debt. They will remove the name of your from the list.

How old must one be to get a HWOF star

When nominated, one must have at least 18-years-old. To be eligible for a star, you must still be alive. After receiving a Star, one can still be Nominated for another star after ten Years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

A family member can nominate your name for a star. If there are no known living relatives, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place the memorial marker in front of it.

Why can't we just choose a different street and not have stars all over?

The HWOF isn't meant to be an historical monument. It is meant as a memorial to all who contributed to the history of film.

What happened with the stars that were stolen? Around 1,200 stars were taken by the thieves. Each star weighs approximately 250-300 pounds, which equates to 4 tons of stars.
