How many films does Hollywood make in a given year?
The number of films produced by Hollywood studios each year is approximately 3,000. Three thousand!
Hollywood spends billions advertising these films. They spend millions making them. They also spend millions on marketing them. But how many end up actually getting seen in the theaters, do you think?
The answer is probably around 200-300. So what happens to all those other 2,700+ films? They are either distributed as direct-to–video releases or simply left in storage.
Not all of them will be undiscovered. Some of them are available for distribution via Netflix and Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus or iTunes, Google Play, and others.
So why don't we see more of them? Why are they not released in theaters? Because they're too expensive to produce.
And if they were cheaper to produce, they'd be released into theaters.
That's where my expertise comes in. I'll help you find the best way for your film to be released in theaters.
I'll show you how to maximize your return on investment (ROI) and increase your chances of seeing your movie in theaters.
Let's face facts...
It can be challenging to get your film into theaters. The process is complex, lengthy and involves many legalities.
It could also be costly before you even start.
Even worse, your window of opportunity to distribute your film is very limited.
There isn't enough time in between the time a movie is finished and when its theatrical run starts.
What happens when my film doesn't perform well at the box office?
A film that does poorly at the box-office could lead to many problems.
First, you might decide to change how you market your film.
The script might be rewritten.
Third, it is possible to add additional characters.
Fourth, you might decide that some characters should be removed
Fifth, you may decide to trim scenes.
Sixth, it's possible to decide that the film was too expensive.
How much of the box-office revenue is spent on marketing budgets?
Marketing budgets account for approximately 20% to 40% of film budgets. Because marketing is vital to any film's success,
Marketing is the only way to make sure that your film is known. People won't pay for it if they don’t know about it.
What is the difference in a distributor and a producer?
The movie is created by a producer. The movie is distributed through a distributor. A distributor can distribute the movie to theaters or other companies such as Netflix. Distributors buy movies from producers. They then make them available for sale to theaters as well cable channels and streaming services.
Distributors must negotiate with theater owners where their movies will be shown. This means that certain movies might be more expensive at some theaters than others. Distributors should be able to distribute your movie to as many theaters as possible.
Are foreign sales worth more to Hollywood than domestic?
Yes, but only a little. Around 17% of total revenue came from foreign sources in 2017. 83% of total revenue came from domestic sources.
In fact, overseas markets account for over half of the world's population.
This means that people who may never have the chance to see a movie at home might still be curious about your movie.
Why is Hollywood so famous?
D.W. Griffith established the first film industry in California, 1887. It was named for its Los Angeles location, also known as Hollywood at that time.
It was an exciting place to visit and the name stuck. People would come from all over just to see what was happening there.
Hollywood is still an integral part of American culture. Movies, television shows and music videos are all part of our culture. We call them all "Hollywood."

If you were nominated by an HWOF member, or if there are significant contributions made to the entertainment, film, radio, theatre, and music industries, you may be eligible for a "star" award. A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they do, they will send a letter explaining their decision to the applicant at his/her home address. If the person accepts the nomination, he/she receives a second letter confirming acceptance. The applicant then pays $25 to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which forwards the money to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.
