FAQ

What are the salaries of actors?

An actor's pay can vary from $1,000,000 per movie to below $100,000 for independent films. Actors typically receive between $10,000 and $20,000 per film. Many actors do not get any compensation. It depends on what actors are successful. Actors can make millions, while others have trouble finding work.

Why are so few independent films ever distributed?

Indie filmmakers tend to assume that distributors will buy their films.

Because they are confident that the public will love their film, they believe distributors would be willing to buy it.

However, this is rarely the case. Distributors often benefit from independent filmmakers.

They use tactics such as delaying a film's release date until after awards season has ended.

They delay the release of a low-budget movie until after the summer blockbuster seasons has started.

Distributors also try to keep films away from audiences until they've already spent hundreds of dollars on tickets, popcorn, or candy.

They don't want any of those profits to go to waste.

How many films does Hollywood make in a given year?

Hollywood studios make approximately 3,000 films annually. Three thousand!

These films are marketed by Hollywood, which spends billions of dollars. They spend millions making them. They also spend millions on marketing them. But how many end up actually getting seen in the theaters, do you think?

It's probably between 200-300. So what happens to all those other 2,700+ films? They are either distributed as direct-to–video releases or simply left in storage.

They are not all destined to be overlooked. Some of these have been selected to be distributed via Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu Plus.

We should see more of them. Why are they not released in theaters? They are too expensive for production.

They'd also be cheaper to produce and released in theaters.

That's where I come in. I can help guide you in the best way possible to put your movie in theaters.

I'll show how to maximize your return-on-investment (ROI) as well as increase your chances for seeing your movie in theatres.

Because let's face it...

It can be hard to get your film into the theaters. This process can be complicated, lengthy, and filled with legalities.

It can also come at a high cost before you even begin.

Even worse, your window of opportunity to distribute your film is very limited.

There is not enough time to wait between the completion of a film and its theatrical release.

What is the cost of distributing a feature-length film?

Distribution deals typically cost $100,000 to $150,000.

Theaters typically cost around $10,000.

The average cost per screen is around $5,000.

The distribution fee is approximately $500,000. If you have 100 screens then that would mean your cost to distribute the screen(s) is around $500,000.

Distribution fees for ten screens would amount to $50,000

How To

How to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce founded the Hollywood Walk of Fame, HWOF (Hollywood Walk of Fame) in 1960. The HWOF's Los Angeles location is at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It's made up of 2,711 stars, which are embedded in the sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.

You must first submit your name and address to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to become a member of HWOF. The Hollywood Department of Cultural Affairs then submits your information to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you have been approved, you will be given a certificate that shows your name and details, including date of birth, place of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your personalization is also provided. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.

If you were nominated by an HWOF member, or if there are significant contributions made to the entertainment, film, radio, theatre, and music industries, you may be eligible for a "star" award. A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they do, they will send a letter explaining their decision to the applicant at his/her home address. A second letter confirms acceptance if the nominee accepts the nomination. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce charges $25, and then the money is sent to the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angles.

The department issues a check payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which sends the check to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays any artist or organization that submitted an application. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce receives half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs pays the remainder.

Once the artist has received his/her star, he/she becomes eligible to be included in the HWOF. To be eligible to list on the HWOF you will need to pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce all outstanding balance. The amount due depends on how many years ago you were first nominated. If you were first honoured in 1990, then you would owe $15,000. However, if you had been previously nominated in 1980, you would owe $10,000.

You will need to contact Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be removed from the HWOF. They will take care of removing your name from the list permanently.

How old does one have to get a star on the HWOF?

You must be at the least 18 year old to be nominated. To receive a star, one must be alive at that time. A star can be renominated after 10 years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

A family member can nominate your name for a star. If no relatives are living, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce may place a memorial stone in front of your star.

Why not use a new street, instead of staring at everyone?

The HWOF was not created to be a historical landmark. It honors those who made history through film.

What happened the star thefts? The thieves stole approximately 1,200 stars. Each star is between 250-300 lbs. If you add all of the weight together, it comes to approximately 4 tons of stars!
