FAQ
Is Hollywood larger than Bollywood?
Producing films that are well-received is the most difficult challenge.
Problem is, there are many movies competing to people's attention and money. If you don't stand out, your chances of being seen are slim.
What makes a movie a success? What makes an actor a star? Or a director? You need to have talent but also luck. You might have all the best actors in the world, but if they're working on a bad script, nothing will come of it.
Films can be divided into two categories: blockbuster films with large budgets or independent productions. Blockbuster movies are expensive to produce and distribute. They are made by huge studios, who want to make sure their movies reach as many people possible. These big-budget movies appeal to older audiences.
Independent films are generally smaller-scale productions that may be financed by individuals or groups of investors. These films usually target specific markets and appeal to specific tastes. These films are often less expensive to produce or market. But, they aren't necessarily cheaper to view. Many indie films can be difficult to find.
The question is whether we need both types. Do we need blockbuster movies, or smaller independent films? Hollywood is bigger than Bollywood, according to me. Hollywood produces nearly twice as many movies annually as India.
What percentage of the box office goes to marketing budgets?
Marketing budgets usually account for anywhere from 20%-40% of a film's budget. This is because marketing plays a vital role in any film's success.
Marketing is the only way to make sure that your film is known. People won't pay for it if they don’t know about it.
What is the annual salary of Hollywood?
Production costs on average for a movie are around $100 million. If you produced ten movies per year for a decade you would have enough money to purchase a small country.
You would own your own island, with an airport, a power plant, a bank, a post office, a police force, a fire department, a school system, a hospital, a zoo, a sports stadium, a theater, and a cinema.
If this doesn't sound fun, you are insane.
