They were ruled over by the men who built them. Some of these men were no more than feudal lords. Many of these men were poor and could build massive studios from scratch. But how did these men become so powerful?

Sam Katzman

Film producers like Sam Katzman have long regarded his career as a triumph of hard work and tenacity. He learned his craft by making movies about musical trends, crazes, and worked quickly to get them in theaters when they were hot. I Surrender Dear, the first feature of the movie mogul, was his first. This film capitalized upon the disc-jockey phenomena in broadcasting. This film provided the blueprint for future rock-and-roll musical hits. Katzman also directed Rock Around the Clock and Two Blondes and a Redhead.

Lord Arthur Rank

The movie mogul Lord Arthur Rank's life isn't as glamorous as you might think. He didn't go to university. Instead, he worked in mills and was eventually in charge of a mill at the age of 21. Rank's faith led him to the film industry. The Methodist Times made a mockery of Hollywood's depraved mentality in the 1930s. Despite his lackluster education, Rank was quick to use his pocket money and made many deals in the industry.

James H. Nicholson

James H. Nicholson is an American movie producer and businessman. Born in Seattle, Nicholson had a lifelong fascination in movies. He joined a high school science fiction fan club. Forrest J. Ackerman and his friend formed Famous Monsters of Filmland. This group promoted AIP movies. By the end of the 1960s, Nicholson was producing dozens of movies aimed at teen audiences.

Samuel Z. Arkoff

Samuel Z. Arkoff was conceived in 1918. Arkoff became a lawyer and specialized in entertainment law. When he was a young man, Variety magazine brought him to the Chicago World's Fair 1933. This is when he began to be interested in motion picture production. Video Associates was a television production company, and he became vice-president. Arkoff's death in 1985 left behind a lasting legacy.


Steve Tisch

The son of a shoe salesman, Steve Tisch is one of the biggest names in the film business today. Tisch is a coowner of the New York Giants as well as a producer of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." Tisch was able use his success in the movie industry to buy New York Giants for $55 million in 2005. He remains the company's chairman and executive vice president today.

The average amount of time it takes to tour the Hollywood Walk Of Fame is approximately 2 hours.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame, which includes 1,400 stars embedded in the sidewalk near Grauman's Chinese Theater, was created in 1960. It recognizes people who made a significant contribution to film, television or music. A plaque is attached to each star with the name of the person, their birth year, and their category.

There are currently 683 stars located along Hollywood Boulevard from Gower Street to Vine Street. Approximately one-third of the stars have been awarded posthumously.

There are many options to view the stars. You can either walk along the street or take advantage of the free transportation offered by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
