FAQ

What are the salaries of actors?

For independent films, the average salary for an actor is less than $100,000. The typical actor earns around $10,000 to $20,000 per movie. Many actors do not get any compensation. It depends on how successful they are. Some actors make millions while others struggle to find work.

Why are so few independent films ever distributed?

Many indie filmmakers believe that distributors will take their films.

Because the film is loved by the public, they believe distributors will be interested in it.

However, this is rarely the case. Independent filmmakers are often used by distributors.

They will use techniques such as delaying the release of a movie until after the awards season has ended.

They may delay the release of a low budget film until after summer blockbuster season begins.

Distributors may also keep films from the public until people have already spent hundreds of money on tickets, popcorn or candy.

They don't want these profits to be lost.

How many theaters am I required to make my investment return?

It depends on how much time you intend to keep your theatrical release running.

One theater is sufficient if you intend to screen your film for less time than two weeks.

If you're going to run your film for longer than two weeks, then at least two theaters are needed.

Why is Hollywood calling this Hollywood?

D.W. Griffith founded the first film industry in California in 1887. It was named for its Los Angeles location, also known as Hollywood at that time.

Because it was such a fascinating place, people kept coming back for more. It was a place that people would travel from all walks of the globe to experience.

Hollywood is an important part of culture today. We have movies, television shows, music videos, commercials, etc. All of them are called "Hollywood."

How To

How to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

In 1960, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created the Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF). The HWOF, located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard Los Angeles, California. It's made up of 2,711 stars, which are embedded in the sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents an individual who contributed to popular culture, such as television, radio or theater. There are currently 1,922 active individuals on the HWOF.

You will need to submit your application to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be considered for membership to the HWOF. Once submitted, your name will be sent to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, a certificate will be sent to you stating that you are eligible. This includes your name as well as date of birth and the city where you live. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque will be attached to a base of concrete in front the designated star.

If a member of the HWOF has nominated you, or if your contributions are significant to films, television, radio or theatre, or any other part of popular culture, you can apply for a Star. The nominations are evaluated by a committee, which then decides whether or not to approve them. If they do, they send a letter to the applicant's home address explaining their decision. The second letter is sent to the applicant confirming acceptance of the nomination if the person accepts it. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce will then pay $25. This money is forwarded to the Department of Cultural Affairs of Los Angeles.

The department issues an official check payable to Hollywood Chamber of commerce. This check is then sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the applicant or organization. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce receives half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs receives the remaining half.

After the artist has been awarded his/her star, they are eligible to join the HWOF. To be eligible to list on the HWOF you will need to pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce all outstanding balance. The amount due is dependent on the number of years since you were first recognized. For example, $15,000. Suppose you were first nominated as a nominee in 1990. You'd owe $10,000 if you were previously nominated in 1990.

Contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to get your name removed from the HWOF and to repay any outstanding debts. They will remove the name of your from the list.

How old does one have to get a star on the HWOF?

Nominations are open to anyone over 18 years of age. To receive a star, one must be alive at that time. One can still be nominated after receiving a star after ten years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

You can be nominated by your family members to receive a star. If no relatives are living, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce may place a memorial stone in front of your star.

Why not use a new street, instead of staring at everyone?

The HWOF doesn't intend to be historical monument. It is intended to honor all those who have made film history possible.

What happened to the stars that got stolen? The thieves stole approximately 1,200 stars. Each star is approximately 250-300 lbs in weight. That's about 4 tons of stars!
