How to get an honor star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF's Los Angeles location is at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It consists of 2,711 stars embedded into the sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents an individual who contributed to popular culture, such as television, radio or theater. There are currently 1,922 active individuals on the HWOF.
To become a HWOF member, you need to submit a name to Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They then submit your details to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your personalization is also provided. This plaque is attached to a concrete base located in front of the designated Star.
You can apply for a star if a current member of the HWOF nominated you or if you made significant contributions to movies, television, radio, theatre, music, or something else considered part of "popular culture." A committee evaluates all nominations and then decides whether to approve them. If they do approve them, they send a note to the home address of the applicant stating their decision. A second letter confirms acceptance if the nominee accepts the nomination. The applicant then pays $25 to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which forwards the money to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.
The department issues the Hollywood Chamber of commerce a check, payable to it. The check is sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation.
