FAQ
What is the difference between an Indie Film and a Foreign Language Film?
A single filmmaker usually makes an independent film. He or she makes all the decisions.
However, foreign language films are typically produced by a larger production group.
They frequently hire actors, directors, and writers from other countries.
Professional translators are also available to ensure that the dialogue sounds natural.
How much does it set you back to distribute a feature length film?
A distribution deal can cost anywhere from $100,000 to $150,000.
The average cost of a theater is approximately $10,000
Screens cost on average around $5,000
If you have 100 screens, your distribution fee will be about $500,000.
Distribution fees for ten screens would amount to $50,000
What's the difference between a manufacturer and a distributor?
The movie is made by a producer. The movie is distributed via a distributor. A distributor can distribute the movie to theaters or other companies such as Netflix. Distributors buy movies directly from producers. They then sell them on to theaters or cable channels, as well as streaming services.
Distributors need to negotiate with theater owners about where their movies will play. This could mean that certain theaters may charge more for a particular movie than others. If you want your movie to be seen by as many people as possible, you should choose a distributor with many theaters.
Why are so few independent films ever distributed?
Most indie filmmakers assume that their films will get picked up by distributors.
They are certain distributors will take their films, as they know that the public will love them.
But this is rare. Independent filmmakers are often used by distributors.
They employ tactics like delaying a movie's release until after awards season has ended.
They might delay the release of low-budget films until after the summer blockbuster series has begun.
Distributors will also attempt to keep movies away from viewers until they have spent hundreds of dollars on popcorn, tickets, or candy.
They don't wish to lose those profits.

How To
How to get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame
In 1960, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created the Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF). The HWOF is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It is composed of 2,711 stars embedded into sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.
To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, a certificate will be sent to you stating that you are eligible. This includes your name as well as date of birth and the city where you live. A bronze plaque with the name of your choice is included. This plaque is attached on a concrete base at the star.
A current HWOF member can nominate you for a star or if you have made significant contributions in movies, television or radio. A committee evaluates all nominations and then decides whether to approve them. If they do approve them, they send a note to the home address of the applicant stating their decision. If the person accepts, they will be sent a second letter to confirm their acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce charges $25, and then the money is sent to the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angles.
The department issues a check payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which sends the check to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays any artist or organization that submitted an application. The artist or organization then pays the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce half the fee ($12.50). The other half goes to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.
After an artist has received his/her Star, he/she can be eligible for the HWOF. To be listed on the HWOF, you must pay the remaining balance owed to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due will depend on when you were first nominated. If you were first honoured in 1990, then you would owe $15,000. For example, if your first nomination was in 1990, you would owe $15,000. However, if it had been in 1980, you would owe 10,000.
If you want to remove yourself from the HWOF, you need to contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and pay off the remainder of your debt. They will take care of removing your name from the list permanently.
What age is required to become a HWOF star?
One needs to be at least 18 years old when being nominated. To receive a Star, one must still be living at the time. After receiving a star, one may still be nominated again after ten years.
What happens if I die before my star gets put up?
Family members may nominate you to be a star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce can place a memorial marker next to the star, if there aren't any living relatives.
Why not use a new street, instead of staring at everyone?
The HWOF was not created to be a historical landmark. It's meant to be a tribute to those who have contributed to film history.
What happened to the stolen stars? The thieves stole around 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250-300 lbs, so if you add up all the weight, that comes out to about 4 tons worth of stars!
