How to get your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce founded the Hollywood Walk of Fame, HWOF (Hollywood Walk of Fame) in 1960. The HWOF, located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard Los Angeles, California. It consists of 2,711 stars embedded into the sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. There are 1,922 individuals currently listed on HWOF.
To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. You will also receive a bronze plaque engraved with your name. This plaque is attached on a concrete base at the star.
You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee evaluates the nominations and decides whether to approve them. If they do, they will send a letter explaining their decision to the applicant at his/her home address. If the person accepts, they will be sent a second letter to confirm their acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce will then pay $25.
