How to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce established the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. The HWOF, located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard Los Angeles, California. It consists of 2,711 stars embedded into the sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents someone who contributed to motion pictures, television, radio, theater, music, or some aspect of popular culture. The HWOF currently lists 1,922 people.
To become a HWOF member, you need to submit a name to Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They then submit your details to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you are approved, you will receive a certificate of eligibility that includes your name, date, residence, occupation, category, and other information. A bronze plaque with your personalization is also provided. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.
If a member of the HWOF has nominated you, or if your contributions are significant to films, television, radio or theatre, or any other part of popular culture, you can apply for a Star. A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they do approve them, they send a note to the home address of the applicant stating their decision. A second letter confirms acceptance if the nominee accepts the nomination.
