FAQ

Is Hollywood bigger than Bollywood?

Producing a movie that is well-received by the public is the biggest challenge for film producers.

There are so many movies out there competing for your time and money. And if you don't stand out from the crowd, you won't have much chance of getting watched.

But what is the secret to making a movie successful. What makes an actor a star? Or a director? You need to have talent but also luck. It doesn't matter if your actors are the best in the world. But a poor script will make you lose everything.

Films can be divided into two categories: blockbuster films with large budgets or independent productions. Production and distribution of blockbuster movies costs hundreds of millions. They are typically made by huge studios who want to ensure that their movies reach a wide audience. However, these films with big budgets appeal mostly to older viewers.

Independent films are generally smaller-scale productions that may be financed by individuals or groups of investors. These films are often targeted at niche markets and appeal to particular tastes. They are generally less costly to produce and market. However, this does not mean they are always less expensive to watch. Most indie films are difficult to find.

The question is: Do we really need both types of movies? Are we going to need both big blockbuster movies or small independent films? Well, I think that Hollywood is actually bigger than Bollywood. Hollywood produces more movies than India every year.

What percentage of box office profits goes to marketing?

Marketing budgets often account for 20%-40% of the film's budget. Marketing is crucial to any film's success.

Without effective marketing, no one will be able to find out about your film. It is impossible to get people to pay for your film without knowing all about it.

Why aren't more independent films distributed?

Indie filmmakers are assuming that distributors will be interested in their films.

Because they love the work, distributors will likely buy their films.

But this is rare. Distributors often profit from independent filmmakers.

They use tactics such as delaying a film's release date until after awards season has ended.

They also delay the release date for a low-budget film until the summer blockbuster movie season has begun.

Distributors may also keep films from the public until people have already spent hundreds of money on tickets, popcorn or candy.

They don't wish to lose those profits.

How many theaters am I required to make my investment return?

It all depends on the length of your theatrical release.

One theater is sufficient if you intend to screen your film for less time than two weeks.

If your film is going to be screened for more then two weeks, you will need two theaters.

Hollywood became famous because of its fame.

The answer was obvious. It was because they were willing and able to take risks. They made films that people would recall for years.

They were also bold enough to try new ideas.

Why is Hollywood calling it Hollywood?

D.W. Griffith created the first movie industry in California in 1887. It was named after Los Angeles, at the time known as Hollywood.

It was an exciting place to visit and the name stuck. People came from all parts of the country to see what was going on there.

Hollywood is still a big part of our culture. We have movies, television shows, music videos, commercials, etc. All of them are called "Hollywood."

Can I create my own distribution organization?

No. A distributor is required to operate a distribution firm.

Even though you may not be distributing other people's films, you still have to follow certain rules.

For instance, it is not possible to charge different prices for different theaters. Additionally, fees cannot be charged to different customers.

Your services cannot be sold to any company.

How To

How to get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame

In 1960, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created the Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF). The HWOF's Los Angeles location is at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It has 2,711 stars embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents an individual who contributed to popular culture, such as television, radio or theater. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.

To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, a certificate will be sent to you stating that you are eligible. This includes your name as well as date of birth and the city where you live. A bronze plaque with the name of your choice is included. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.

You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee evaluates all nominations and then decides whether to approve them. If they do, they send a letter to the applicant's home address explaining their decision. If the person accepts the nomination, he/she receives a second letter confirming acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce charges $25, and then the money is sent to the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angles.

The department issues a cheque payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce. It then sends the check the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays artists or organizations whose applications were accepted. The fee is then paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at $12.50. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs receives the remaining half.

After the artist has been awarded his/her star, they are eligible to join the HWOF. You must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce the balance due to be included on the HWOF. The amount due will depend on when you were first nominated. If you were first nominated for a nomination in 1990, your owe $15,000. If you were nominated for the first time in 1990, you would owe $15,000.

You can remove yourself from HWOF by contacting the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to pay the rest of your debt. They will remove the name of your from the list.

How old is one to be eligible for a HWOF Star?

Nominations are open to anyone over 18 years of age. To receive a star, one must be alive at that time. One can still be nominated after receiving a star after ten years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Nominating you can be done by family members. If there are no known living relatives, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place the memorial marker in front of it.

Why not use a new street, instead of staring at everyone?

The HWOF was not created to be a historical landmark. It's meant to be a tribute to those who have contributed to film history.

What happened to the stolen stars? The thieves took around 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250 and 300 lbs. This makes it approximately 4 tons!
