How To

How to get a Hollywood Walk of Fame star

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1960 established the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The HWOF, located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard Los Angeles, California. It has 2,711 stars embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. There are 1,922 individuals currently listed on HWOF.

To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is attached to a concrete base located in front of the designated Star.

If a member of the HWOF has nominated you, or if your contributions are significant to films, television, radio or theatre, or any other part of popular culture, you can apply for a Star. A committee reviews all the nominations before deciding whether or not they are approved. If they do approve them, they send a note to the home address of the applicant stating their decision. If the person accepts, they will be sent a second letter to confirm their acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce charges $25, and then the money is sent to the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angles.

The department issues an official check payable to Hollywood Chamber of commerce. This check is then sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays any artist or organization that submitted an application. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce pays half of the $12.50 fee to the artist or organization. The other half goes to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.

After an artist has received his/her Star, he/she can be eligible for the HWOF. To be eligible for the HWOF, the artist must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce any balance. The amount due depends on how many years ago you were first nominated. You would owe $15,000. If you were first Nominated in 1990, for example. However, if you had been previously nominated in 1980, you would owe $10,000.

If you want to remove yourself from the HWOF, you need to contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and pay off the remainder of your debt. They will remove you from the list.

How old does one have to get a star on the HWOF?

To be nominated, one must be at least 18 years. To receive a coveted star, one must be at least 18 years old. One can still be nominated after receiving a star after ten years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Your family members can nominate you for a star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place an honorary marker in front of the star if there are no living relatives.

Why not just have stars on every street?

The HWOF is not meant to be a historical monument. It's meant to be a tribute to those who have contributed to film history.

What happened the star thefts? The thieves took approximately 1,200 stars. Each star is approximately 250-300 lbs in weight. That's about 4 tons of stars!
